Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is a showcase edifice of superb Mughal craftsmanship and is one of the major tourist attractions in Agra. It was constructed under Shah Jahan's patronage as a tribute to his beloved wife Arjumand Bano Begum. Her remains is interred in the Taj Mahal's crypt.
This structure's designs are influenced by Persian and Mughal architecture. The tomb, which is a massive edifice built entirely of marble, is the focal point of the edifice. Another is the Agra Fort, commonly known as the Red Fort, which was built in the 16th century.
It is located near the Taj Mahal's gardens. Agra Fort is made of red sandstone and has walls that stretch for at least two kilometres. There are numerous magnificent palaces within, including Jahangir Palace and Khas Palace. The magnificent hall of audiences, known as the Diwan-i-Khas, is located here. A handful of spectacular mosques may also be seen on the premises.
Agra is connected by air to Varanasi, Delhi, and Khajuraho. It also receives a number of stopover flights from India's main cities. The Kheria Airport in Agra is around 12.5 kilometers from the city center, and taxis are readily available to transport passengers from the airport to the city.
The Agra Cantonment, Raja-ki-Mandi, Agra Fort, and Idgah Agra Junction are the four main railway stations in Agra.
By bus, Agra is linked to important cities including Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Gwalior.
